The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned a remodelled school in Ezomo Community, Benin City, as part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to strengthen relations with host communities.
The commissioning took place on Friday, November 6, 2026. The project was initiated by the Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Bobby Ugiagbe, under the Army’s Civil-Military Cooperation programme.
The Army said the project was intended to improve the learning environment for pupils and teachers and promote cooperation between the military and the civilian population.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to community projects that complement government efforts to provide essential services, particularly in education. He described such initiatives as part of the Army’s non-kinetic approach to supporting peace, security and community development.
He said the renovated school would provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, and urged community members to take responsibility for its maintenance and protect it from vandalism.
Shaibu commended Ugiagbe for initiating the project, saying it reflected the Army’s commitment to supporting communities in areas where it operates.
Earlier, Ugiagbe said the project was undertaken to give back to the community and strengthen civil-military relations. He thanked the COAS for his support and encouragement.
