The Sokoto State Government has sealed one of the offices of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a recent disturbance involving party supporters and some suspected troublemakers.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, announced the decision on Monday. He said the government took the action to protect lives and property and prevent further disturbances.

Dantsoho said the government reviewed the building’s certificate of occupancy and other documents and found that the property originally belonged to the defunct Savannah Bank.

He said the government’s records did not show that ownership of the building had officially changed.

The commissioner added that the government had written to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which is responsible for the property, to confirm who currently owns it. However, he said the government had yet to receive a response.

He explained that the building would remain sealed until the NDIC clarified its ownership.

Dantsoho urged anyone claiming ownership of the property to submit relevant documents to the state government for verification.

He said the building could be handed over to its rightful owner once the ownership issue had been resolved.

The commissioner also warned that anyone who tried to forcefully enter the sealed building would face legal action, including prosecution.

The development comes amid rising political tension in Sokoto State following allegations of attacks involving ADC supporters and operatives of a state-owned security outfit.
