Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye has alleged that Nigeria’s 2027 general election is already at risk of being rigged through manipulation of the voter register.
Speaking on the broadcaster’s Politics Today programme on Friday night, Okinbaloye said intelligence reports and early indications suggested that politicians had begun manipulating the register. He cited alleged cases of underage and multiple registrations, as well as ghost voters.
“The 2027 election is already being rigged right now. Not on election day. It is being rigged with the voters’ register. If INEC does not clean it up now, we are wasting our time,” he said.
Okinbaloye urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct an audit of the register and remove fraudulent entries, including the names of deceased and underage people.
He said Nigerians should not wait until election day to raise concerns about rigging, adding that the groundwork was being laid through a compromised register.
“If the register is dirty, the election is dirty. INEC must act now,” he said.
