President Bola Tinubu has transmitted executive bills to the National Assembly seeking to reform the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), while proposing the replacement of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON).

The proposed legislation is expected to introduce changes to the affected institutions, subject to consideration and approval by the National Assembly.

The move signals a fresh push by the Tinubu administration to review the legal and institutional frameworks governing key federal agencies.

The NDLEA is responsible for combating drug trafficking and illicit drug use in Nigeria, while the NSIB investigates accidents and incidents involving transport systems to establish their causes and make safety recommendations.

ASCON, meanwhile, provides management training and capacity-building programmes for public-sector personnel.

Details of the proposed bills, including the specific amendments and the proposed structure to replace ASCON, are expected to emerge as the legislation progresses through the National Assembly.

The bills will require legislative scrutiny before any proposed changes can take effect.
