Nigeria’s Federal Government has condemned an attack by Houthi militants on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, describing the incident as a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian safety and violates the kingdom’s sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Nigeria was concerned about the attack, which occurred on Saturday.

The government said the incident demonstrated a disregard for civilian safety and constituted a violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty.

Nigeria described the development as a “dangerous escalation”, signalling its concern over the potential implications of attacks on civilian infrastructure in the region.

The Federal Government’s statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s opposition to actions that threaten civilian lives and undermine the sovereignty of states.

The condemnation comes amid wider regional security concerns involving the Houthis, an armed movement based in Yemen that has been involved in a prolonged conflict with Saudi Arabia and other regional actors.

The Nigerian government did not provide further details about the attack in the statement, including the extent of any damage or whether casualties were recorded.
