The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has launched a major women’s mobilisation and empowerment drive in Abuja, targeting 40 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.
More than 20,000 women drawn from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate in the pre-inaugural summit, which opened at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
Organised by the council’s Women Mobilisation Directorate, the event is being held under the theme, “Renewed Hope Agenda 2.0: From Reforms to Prosperity.”
The directorate, led by Dr Betta Edu, said the initiative was designed to strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation structure across 176,846 communities nationwide.
Dr Edu said the directorate had set an ambitious target of securing 40 million women’s votes for President Tinubu and Vice-President Shettima, as the APC seeks to consolidate its support ahead of the next general election.
The summit brought together senior APC figures, former governors and prominent women leaders.
The Director-General of the campaign council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, attended the gathering alongside former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Rochas Okorocha and Aminu Bello Masari. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, was also present.
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is the convener of the summit, was joined by the Vice-President’s wife, Nana Shettima, wives of APC governors, female ministers, the wife of the APC National Chairman, Princess Gloria Akobundu of the planning committee and other women leaders and party stakeholders.
The mobilisation campaign represents a major effort by the APC to deepen its grassroots presence and harness the political strength of women voters across Nigeria.
