Senator Aliyu Wadada Questions Competitiveness of ADC in 2027 Presidential Race
Senator Aliyu Wadada has expressed skepticism about the ability of any candidate from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to outperform the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 Presidential election.
Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West in the National Assembly and is currently a member of the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP), made these remarks following a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House on Tuesday. He indicated his intention to switch allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
When asked about the ADC’s prospects in the 2027 elections, Wadada stated, “The ADC is made up of respected Nigerians. However, I challenge you to identify any of their candidates who can offer a better alternative than what the Tinubu administration is providing. I have yet to see anyone.”
He further elaborated on the challenges facing potential candidates, asking, “If any of them were to lead Nigeria, what would they do differently regarding the fuel subsidy or the foreign exchange market compared to the current administration?”
Wadada also emphasized the importance of holding state governors accountable, particularly in light of the increased allocations they are receiving from the Federation Accounts following the removal of the fuel subsidy. “No state in Nigeria is currently receiving less than three times what they used to get, so it’s time to hold our state governments accountable,” he urged.
When pressed on whether he was endorsing President Tinubu for a second term, Wadada affirmed, “It is clear that anyone who genuinely cares for Nigeria understands the significance of the changes being implemented. People often resist change, but the unprecedented reforms introduced by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu are essential for progress.”
He pointed to significant infrastructure projects, such as the Sokoto-Badagry road, which he noted was initially conceived during the Second Republic but has gained renewed focus under Tinubu’s leadership. “The President has directed that local resources be utilized for these projects to stimulate the economy in northern Nigeria,” he explained.
Wadada concluded by highlighting the ongoing transformation of the Federal Capital Territory, stating, “The pride of the nation is evident in the changes occurring in Abuja, and we must acknowledge the positive impact of this administration.”
