The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that the commission has reopened its online voter registration exercise.

INEC said the fake portal was circulating a notice claiming that voter registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, the commission described the information as false and urged Nigerians to disregard the purported registration window.

INEC clarified that the latest Continuous Voter Registration exercise had already ended in July and that there was no ongoing online registration exercise as being claimed by the fraudulent website.

The commission advised Nigerians to rely only on its official communication channels for information concerning voter registration and other electoral activities.

The warning comes as INEC continues preparations for upcoming electoral activities, amid concerns over the spread of misleading information online.

The commission urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid providing personal information through unverified websites or platforms claiming to be affiliated with INEC.
