A missing man’s last phone activity has led Abuja police to a woman and two hotel employees in connection with the discovery and disposal of his body, the Federal Capital Territory Police said, DAILYTRUST Newspaper reports
The man, whose name has not been released, was reported missing by his family before his lifeless body was found under the Katampe Bridge along the Kubwa Expressway on Saturday, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi told reporters at the command headquarters.
Initial public speculation tied the discovery to kidnapping or “one chance” robbery, but investigators confirmed the body belonged to the man reported missing by his relatives, Sanusi said.
Investigators noticed the deceased’s mobile phone was missing and used the device’s last known activity as a lead. Although the phone had been switched off, police traced its last communication to Mrs. Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2, Abuja. Muhammed, a married woman, allegedly had a romantic relationship with the deceased and had his contact saved as “Safiyat” on her phone, the commissioner said.
Police then traced the pair to Good Samaritan Guest House on Second Avenue, Gwarimpa, where they had reportedly lodged. According to Sanusi, Muhammed allegedly discovered the man was no longer breathing but left the hotel with his mobile phone instead of reporting the incident to police.
Several hours later, hotel management entered the room after failing to reach the occupants and found the man’s body. Sanusi said two members of the hotel management, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway by Katampe, where it was dumped under the bridge.
Police have not established how the man died. “The exact cause and circumstances of the deceased’s death are still under investigation,” Sanusi said, adding that other investigative processes are being pursued to determine the full facts of the case.
He warned against drawing conclusions before the investigation is complete and said anyone found to have taken part in the man’s death, or in the concealment and abandonment of his body, would be prosecuted.
For the deceased’s family, a search for a missing relative has become an ongoing police inquiry into his final hours—from a Gwarimpa guest house to a roadside beneath a bridge. Police said further investigative steps are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death.
