Muslim faithful in Kaduna have offered special prayers for Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani as the country prepares to mark its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The prayers were held at the historic Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna on Friday as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s independence.
The Deputy Chief Imam of the mosque, Sheikh Abdullahi Aliyu, who delivered the sermon, prayed for peace, unity and stability across the country.
He also called on political leaders and citizens to uphold trust, truthfulness and integrity, stressing that public office comes with a responsibility to serve the people.
According to him, positions of authority, wealth and other blessings are trusts from Almighty Allah and would ultimately be accounted for.
“God tests us with trust, our wealth, our families, and the positions He has given us, whether big or small,” he said.
The cleric urged Nigerians to continue praying for the country and its leaders, while emphasising the need for responsible leadership and peaceful coexistence.
The gathering formed part of nationwide activities marking Nigeria’s 66th year of independence, with prayers focusing on peace, unity and progress for the nation.
Nigeria gained independence from British colonial rule on 1 October 1960.
