The Nigerian Army’s 18 Brigade has freed 22 kidnapped victims in Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, as part of its continued operations to stop terrorists from moving freely in its operational area.
The rescue happened on 15 September 2026, when troops from 18 Brigade Garrison and 45 Battalion acted on reliable intelligence about terrorists gathering in the area. They launched a fighting patrol, and on seeing the approaching soldiers, the terrorists fled into nearby forest. The troops pursued them along their escape routes and rescued 22 captives. They also recovered three motorcycles and other items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
The rescued victims were handed over to Muchiya community leaders and have been reunited with their families. One victim, Alhaji Hassan, who was injured while in captivity, was quickly taken to a clinic and is responding to treatment.
The Commander of 18 Brigade praised the troops for their courage, resilience, and determination. He urged them to keep up the pressure and maintain control of the area. He also assured law-abiding residents of Muchiya and nearby communities that the Brigade remains committed to protecting lives and property, and asked them to continue providing timely and credible information about criminal activities.
