The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it found no evidence linking Femi Gbajabiamila, the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President or the State House to Adeyemi, the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), or anyone acting on behalf of the body.
The anti-corruption agency’s position appears to distance Mr Gbajabiamila and the Presidency from activities allegedly carried out in the name of the purported council.
According to the ICPC, its investigation did not establish any connection between Mr Gbajabiamila, his office or the State House and Mr Adeyemi or individuals claiming to represent the PFIPC.
The development comes amid scrutiny surrounding the activities of the purported council and questions over its legitimacy, operations and alleged links to government officials.
The ICPC’s findings are significant because any established connection between the organisation and officials within the Presidency could have raised further questions over its authority and activities.
However, the commission said its investigation uncovered no evidence to substantiate such a link.
The clarification is expected to help distinguish the activities of the purported council from those of the official structures of the Nigerian government, while further attention is likely to focus on the identity, activities and representations made by those behind the organisation.
