Several residents have been killed and others injured after gunmen attacked communities in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria.
The attackers reportedly invaded Mbaterem, Ayaba, Ikpur, Yina, Aboajio and Ukpen communities in Mbazun Ward in the early hours of Sunday.
Residents said the assailants moved through the communities, firing at people and causing panic as residents fled their homes for safety.
The number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed, while the identities of those killed and injured were not immediately available.
The attack has heightened concerns over renewed violence in parts of Benue, where communities have repeatedly faced deadly attacks.
