The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has announced the constitution of a Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the association and lead a repositioning process.
The decision was reached following extensive consultations with select stakeholders, where a unanimous vote of confidence was passed on the need for an interim leadership to revive the association and strengthen its structures.
In a statement signed by Elder Reuben Okala on behalf of the Board of Trustees, the BoT noted that the committee is tasked with reconnecting members and preparing the ground for a credible and transparent electoral process.
The newly appointed committee members, who will serve for a one-year tenure, include Eneojo Herbert Idakwo as Acting President, Juliet Akoje as Vice President, Yusuf Akogu as Secretary General, and Hass Akodih Emmanuel as Mobilization/Public Relations Officer.
According to the statement, the committee’s mandate includes promoting unity among members, expanding the association’s membership base, and reviewing the operational framework where necessary. They are also expected to engage relevant stakeholders and organize a free and fair election at the expiration of their mandate.
“The Board of Trustees believes that the caliber, experience, and commitment of the appointed officers will provide the leadership required to restore the association’s relevance,” the statement read. “We aim to reposition FORIJA as a respected professional body that promotes excellence in journalism and contributes meaningfully to the development of Igala land.”
The BoT urged all media professionals of Igala extraction and other stakeholders to provide the committee with maximum cooperation to ensure the success of the assignment.
