The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on industrial action across 11 state-owned universities over the non-payment of outstanding allowances.

The union accused the government of failing to honour agreed financial obligations to its members despite repeated engagements, warning that continued delays could force lecturers to withdraw their services.

ASUU said the proposed strike is intended to compel the authorities to address the lingering welfare issues affecting academic staff. The union urged the government to act swiftly to avert another disruption to the academic calendar.

Further details are expected as discussions between the union and the relevant authorities continue.
