The Nigerian Army has arrested a man suspected of impersonating a serving major general in Kaduna State, in what authorities describe as a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb military impersonation and related criminal activities.
Military sources said the suspect, who allegedly posed as a senior-ranking officer, was apprehended during an operation carried out by security personnel in the state. Officials are investigating how long the individual had been masquerading as a major general and whether he used the false identity to commit fraud or facilitate other criminal acts.
The Army has yet to release the suspect’s identity, but said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged impersonation and identify any accomplices.
Security experts say impersonating senior military officers poses a serious threat to public trust and national security, as such deception can be exploited to intimidate civilians, gain unlawful access to restricted facilities, or perpetrate financial scams.
The Nigerian Army has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious individuals claiming military status through appropriate security channels, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of the Armed Forces.
