A recent detainee, identified as Justice Crack, has shared a personal account of his time in custody, praising the Department of State Services (DSS) for what he described as a display of high-level professionalism and respect for human rights.
Crack, who recently regained his freedom, clarified that his account was based strictly on his personal experience during his stay at a DSS facility following a traumatic ordeal with unidentified men.
He spoke about the transition from being held in an unknown location to being taken into official custody on the night of April 30th.
“I want to clearly state that this is my personal experience and account. On the night of April 30th, after days of being blindfolded and held by some unidentified men who initially claimed to be from the DSS — but whom I later discovered were not DSS officials — I was eventually taken to a DSS facility,”** he said.
A traumatic arrival
Recounting his arrival at the facility, Crack explained that he was still blindfolded and handcuffed when he was brought in. However, the atmosphere changed the moment he was processed into the building.
“I heard someone instruct that my blindfold should not be removed until we were inside. Shortly after, it was removed, and for the first time in days, I was able to see properly again. The officer who received me spoke calmly and assured me that I was safe.
“He noticed I was shaking and visibly traumatized, and he tried to calm me down. At that point, I was extremely scared and confused because I still did not fully understand my situation,” he added.
Welfare and Medical Care
Contrary to common perceptions of detention, Crack revealed that the agency prioritized his health and welfare immediately upon his arrival.
“That same night, I was given tea and bread — the first proper meal I had eaten in days. I was also taken to the medical unit where my blood pressure and general health condition were checked to ensure I was medically stable.
“Afterwards, I was taken to a room with other detainees and provided with a bed and duvet. For the first time in days, I was able to sleep comfortably,” he stated.
Professional Investigation
On the conduct of the investigation team, Crack noted that the process was devoid of physical assault or intimidation. While he declined to discuss the specifics of the case as the matter is still before the court, he emphasized the professional behavior of the personnel.
“Based on my personal experience, the DSS officials I interacted with treated me professionally and respectfully throughout my stay. Nobody shouted at me, physically assaulted me, or used force against me.
“They also ensured that I had food and basic care, and I was even asked if there were specific meals I preferred during the process. I also observed that officials handling my case remained active on the matter, including during weekends and public holidays.”
Need for Improvement
Despite his positive review, Crack maintained that there is always room for growth within the agency’s administrative structure.
“From my own experience, I can say that the DSS demonstrated professionalism. At the same time, no institution is perfect. Like every agency, there are areas where improvements can still be made — particularly regarding the speed of investigations and certain administrative processes,” he concluded.
The account, which Crack says is “to be continued,” serves as a rare first-hand testimony regarding the internal operations of the nation’s secret police.
