Former Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has said he would be willing to serve as running mate to Peter Obi in the lead-up to Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, in what could mark a major realignment within the opposition.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, Kwankwaso said he would be pleased to work alongside Obi if selected under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former governor of Kano State revealed that discussions between both camps had already centred on confronting Nigeria’s worsening security crisis, with the aim of restoring stability and public confidence across the country.

Kwankwaso’s remarks are likely to fuel speculation over the emergence of a broader opposition coalition capable of challenging the ruling establishment in 2027, as political actors intensify consultations and strategic alliances ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Analysts say a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket could significantly reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly among young voters and regions seeking an alternative to the country’s traditional power blocs.
