Nigeria’s newly appointed power minister, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has tempered expectations over the country’s chronic electricity crisis, saying he cannot guarantee uninterrupted power supply but promising noticeable improvements within a short period.

“I cannot promise Nigerians 24 hours of electricity,” Tegbe said, “but there will be measurable improvement in the sector in the shortest possible time.”

The remarks come as millions across Nigeria continue to grapple with erratic electricity supply, rising energy costs and repeated national grid collapses that have strained households and businesses alike.

Tegbe’s comments signal an attempt to balance public expectations with the realities of a sector long plagued by infrastructure deficits, low generation capacity and distribution challenges.

Analysts say the minister now faces mounting pressure to deliver tangible reforms quickly, as the government seeks to restore confidence in one of Nigeria’s most troubled sectors.
