The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reaffirmed the sanctity of political party constitutions by upholding the suspension of four high-ranking officials and voiding a national convention conducted in March 2026.

The officials affected by the unanimous judgment include Samuel Anyanwu, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), Umaru Bature, and Okechukwu Osuoha.

In dismissing the appeal, the justices maintained that the court would not sit in judgment over the internal domestic affairs of a political association, provided the party follows its own governing documents. By affirming the suspension, the court triggered a “chain of nullities,” striking down the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman.

The court further ruled that the March 29–30 convention was a legal nullity, meaning all communiqués and financial authorizations stemming from that exercise are void.

Legal experts suggest the ruling provides a definitive end to the leadership crisis, as it explicitly instructs statutory bodies like INEC and commercial banks to ignore any claims of authority from the Anyanwu-led faction.
