Senator Aliyu Wadada, the man reportedly tapped by Governor Abdullahi Sule to run for governor in 2027, paid a high-profile visit to former Governor Tanko Al-Makura at his residence.

The trip came barely 24 hours after Al-Makura publicly voiced his unhappiness with Sule’s decision to present a preferred successor to the President without consulting key stakeholders.

In the meeting Wadada asked the former governor for his blessing. He called him a “foundational pillar” of modern Nasarawa. He praised the development Al-Makura delivered during his time in office and said any future progress must recognize the foundation that administration built.

Wadada used the occasion to praise Al-Makura’s record of transforming the state. He cast himself as the candidate of continuity and respect. After Al-Makura’s open complaints about being sidelined in the selection process, the visit is being read as a deliberate step to lock in support from the state’s most influential political godfather.

Political watchers see it as a calculated attempt to close the growing rift between the governor’s camp and other major APC figures across Nasarawa.
