The Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi Jr, has apologised to former senior managers affected by a recent leadership overhaul at the media conglomerate, while maintaining that the changes were necessary to rescue the company from financial and operational strain.

In a statement on Monday, Dokpesi Jr acknowledged the contributions of the exited executives, describing their departures as “deeply regrettable but unavoidable”, adding that decisive action was required to stabilise the organisation and reposition it for growth.

“I appreciate the years of service and dedication shown by those who were affected,” he said. “However, DAAR Communications was at a critical point, and difficult decisions had to be taken in the best interest of the company’s future.”

The restructuring, which saw several top managers leave the company, has sparked debate within Nigeria’s media industry, with critics questioning both the timing and scope of the shake-up.

Dokpesi Jr, however, defended the move, saying the company had been grappling with mounting debts, declining revenues and internal inefficiencies. He noted that the new leadership team has been tasked with implementing reforms aimed at restoring financial discipline, improving content quality and rebuilding investor confidence.

DAAR Communications, owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and RayPower FM, is one of Nigeria’s most prominent media groups.

Dokpesi Jr pledged greater transparency going forward and assured staff and stakeholders that the company remains committed to professionalism, innovation and sustainability.

“Our priority is to secure DAAR’s long-term survival and relevance in a rapidly changing media landscape,” he said. “These changes are about rebuilding, not blaming.”
