The Nasarawa State Government has commissioned three brand-new dialysis machines at Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) lafia, valued at over ₦170 million.
Health Commissioner Dr. Gaza Gwamna revealed this during the commissioning ceremony, saying the machines would bridge the gap for residents who previously had to travel outside Lafia for dialysis services.
“This is a noble initiative by the state government. We are supporting our people and ourselves by enhancing healthcare services here,” Dr. Gwamna said.
He commended the state governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule for his commitment in boosting health care delivery in the state and especially the support to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia despite being now a federal facility.
Chief Medical Director Dr Hassan. Ikrama praised the government’s gesture, noting that many lives would be saved with the new machines. “Before, we had no dialysis machines, and many lives were lost. The commissioner made a case on our behave to the governor,hence the intervention and we now have three brand new dialysis machines which has changed the narrative of health care delivery service here in Lafia and beyond ” he said.
The hospital recently transitioned from a state specialist hospital to a Federal University Teaching Hospital, and the state government’s donation shall address critical need.
In a related development, the Commissioner Dr. Gaza Gwamna and the Chief Medical Director inspected ongoing renovation work at the Center for Vaccine Research and biotechnology, which was originally built by the state government which have also been handed over to FUTH Lafia,saying the project is a critical step toward boosting medical research and innovation in the state.
The Daily Monitor recalled that the Federal University Teaching Hospital Lafia,was a state specialist hospital which transition into a teaching hospital was perfected a year ago, bringing tertiary health care delivery to the door steps of patients and easing medical students of the Federal University of Lafia in research work.
