The Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Abubakar, has pledged his unwavering support and spiritual backing for the Nigerian Army as they confront the nation’s security challenges.
The paramount ruler made this commitment on Wednesday during a high-level courtesy visit by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to his palace in Bida, Niger State.
During the reception, the Etsu Nupe—himself a retired military officer of high repute—lauded the Army for its professionalism and steadfastness in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Nigeria. He emphasized that while tactical preparations are vital, spiritual support is equally indispensable for victory.
“I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude in the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,” the Etsu said. “Anything you do without God Almighty is nothing, but with Him, you will succeed. May Allah protect you and grant you the strength and wisdom to overcome your fears.”
The traditional ruler expressed deep confidence in the Nigerian Army’s logistics, training, and operational readiness, noting that the integration of modern technology and intelligence is key to defeating contemporary threats. Reflecting on the Army’s track record, he predicted even greater milestones under the current leadership.
“Over the years, with the experience God has given you and your commitment to service, the sky is the limit, Inshallah,” he added.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that his visit to the palace was more than a formal courtesy; it was a strategic consultation. He acknowledged the Etsu Nupe’s distinguished military career, particularly his involvement in international operations in Liberia and with joint forces.
“We are here not only to pay a courtesy visit but also to seek your constant advice on tackling security challenges, particularly in collaboration with the police,” the COAS stated.
General Shaibu added that the Etsu’s unique experience positions him as a vital resource for the Army leadership in shaping security policies both within Niger State and across the Federation. He also thanked the Etsu’s family and the Bida community for their continuous support of troops operating in the region.
The COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to “Civil-Military Cooperation,” noting that continuous engagement with community leaders is critical to navigating complex security terrains.
The monarch concluded by assuring the COAS that his palace remains open for guidance and advice, stating, “We shall continue to offer prayers and support to ensure the Nigerian Army fulfills its mandate to protect lives and property.”
The visit highlights the synergy between traditional institutions and military leadership, a relationship widely seen as a cornerstone for effective intelligence gathering and grassroots security in Nigeria.
