The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested several individuals suspected of financing bandit groups operating across the region, a breakthrough authorities say could significantly disrupt criminal activities in the North-West.

Confirming the development on Monday, police officials disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following weeks of intelligence-led operations targeting the financial lifelines that enable banditry to flourish. The arrests were made in coordinated raids across multiple locations within the state.

According to security sources, the suspects are believed to have provided logistical support, cash transfers, and other essential resources that aided bandit operations, including attacks on rural communities and highways. Their detention is expected to offer investigators vital leads into the broader network sustaining armed groups in the region.

The Police Command noted that the operation forms part of a renewed crackdown on both armed groups and their backers, stressing that identifying and dismantling funding channels remains a key strategy in restoring peace.

The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Authorities say more details will be released as investigations progress.

The development has been welcomed by residents and community leaders, who have repeatedly called for tougher action not only against armed bandits but also against those enabling their operations from behind the scenes.
