Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence has pledged a decisive overhaul of the nation’s security architecture, assuring citizens that they will soon experience a marked improvement in safety and stability.
Speaking during his inaugural briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister said the Federal Government remains fully committed to restoring peace across all troubled regions. He emphasised that addressing insecurity—whether terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, or communal conflicts—will be treated as a top national priority.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Defence will intensify collaboration with the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and security stakeholders to deliver rapid, intelligence-driven operations. According to him, the new strategy will focus on modernising equipment, improving troop welfare, and deploying advanced technology to combat emerging threats.
“We owe Nigerians a country where they can travel freely, sleep peacefully, and go about their daily activities without fear,” the minister stated. “Our mandate is clear: to secure the nation, stabilise affected communities, and rebuild public trust.”
He added that ongoing reforms will be complemented by stronger partnerships with regional and international allies to bolster counter-terrorism efforts and enhance border security.
The minister urged citizens to support the security agencies, stressing that lasting peace requires cooperation between the government and the public.
With his pledge, expectations are high that the new leadership at the Defence Ministry will usher in a more coordinated and effective security framework to safeguard lives and property across the country.
