At least eight people have been abducted after armed bandits carried out a fresh attack on communities in Kano State, northern Nigeria, according to local reports published by Politics Nigeria.

Residents said the attackers stormed the area late in the night, firing sporadically and forcing people from their homes before escaping with the victims. The incident has heightened fears among locals who say security has deteriorated in recent weeks despite increased patrols.

Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the assault, and it remains unclear which armed group is behind the abduction. However, communities across northern Nigeria have for years faced raids, kidnappings, and extortion by armed groups commonly referred to as bandits.

Local leaders are calling for a rapid response, warning that failure to act could embolden the attackers and lead to more violence. Security analysts say the latest abduction highlights the widening reach of criminal networks that have spread across the northwest and parts of the north-central region.

The victims’ families are appealing for urgent government intervention as the search for those taken continues.
