Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Babachir Lawal, has launched a strong criticism against Nigeria’s two leading political parties — the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) insisting that both will be defeated in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at an event on Saturday while receiving former Kogi State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, who defected to the ADC, Lawal described the ruling APC as “a haven for fugitives fleeing from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).”
According to him, “It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC becomes a haven for EFCC fugitives.”
Lawal, a founding member of the APC before his exit, accused the ruling party of arrogance and manipulation of the electoral process. “The APC’s only mantra now is to write election results even before elections begin. This is pure delusion because it will not happen. Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results,” he stated.
He emphasised that the ADC would not accept every politician seeking to join the party, stressing that the leadership was determined to maintain its values and integrity. “Not every politician defecting from other parties will be admitted into the ADC, lest they corrupt our ideals with attitudes imbibed from their corrupt, undemocratic home parties,” he cautioned.
Describing the ADC as “a party of visionaries and patriots who are fed up with the direction of the country under the leadership of PDP and APC,” the former SGF said Nigerians had reached a turning point and must act decisively in 2027.
“Every patriotic Nigerian now understands that our country has reached the edge of a cliff. The ADC offers Nigerians an opportunity to make a U-turn, recalibrate, and redirect our governance toward a progressive, people-centric system,” he said.
Turning his attention to the Adamawa State Government, Lawal criticised Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s administration, accusing it of poor performance and lack of meaningful development projects. “All we get from over six years of PDP governance is a couple of flyovers carrying scanty traffic despite billions of naira accruing to the state. Sometimes, I wonder whether the money leaves Abuja for Yola at all,” he remarked.
