The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on the people of Benue State to maintain their support for President Bola Tinubu as he drives the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Senator Akume made the appeal at the weekend during the formal handover of fully renovated structures and a newly equipped ICT laboratory at his alma mater, LGEA Primary School, Wannune, in Tarka Local Government Area. The project was facilitated through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Speaking with deep emotion as he recalled his childhood days, the SGF described the event as both “fulfilling and memorable”, noting that his journey to prominence began at the same school decades ago.

“The complete renovation of this school and the provision of an ICT laboratory is a modest contribution to the growth of my alma mater and the advancement of education in our state,” he said.

“I urge you to continue to stand firmly with my principal, President Bola Tinubu, who has rolled out transformative initiatives with the drive and capacity to change lives for the better.”

He highlighted major ongoing infrastructure projects under the Tinubu administration, including the Makurdi–Katsina Ala Road reconstruction, the Badagry–Sokoto Highway, the Makurdi–Otukpo–9th Mile Road, the Lagos–Calabar Super Highway, and the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, stressing their importance for national economic growth.

In further support of education, Akume announced a scholarship scheme for pupils of the school and encouraged residents to take advantage of the Federal Polytechnic, Wannune, which now offers over 20 academic programmes.

The Education Secretary of Tarka LGA, Mr Aondoakaa Kwaghbo, praised Akume for his commitment to education, noting that the ICT centre would significantly improve pupils’ computer literacy.

The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hajiya Aisha Garba, who led the official handover, commended the SGF for his vision and hospitality, while traditional ruler, HRH Gregory Gandeoron (Ter Mbakor), lauded him as a source of pride for the community.

“My dearest son, Senator George Akume, you continue to place Mbakor and Benue on the national map. Today, in communion with our ancestors, I bless you and reaffirm our total support for President Tinubu’s reforms,” the monarch declared.

Also present were senior UBEC officials, including Director of Physical Planning, Engr. Sadiq Saad; Special Adviser to the Executive Secretary, Ibrahim Gold; and Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical), Mr Rasaq Akinyemi.
