The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that it cannot take disciplinary action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, or any other member based on mere allegations of anti-party activities. According to the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, a formal, written petition with supporting evidence is required before any member can be sanctioned.
Speaking in Abuja, Osuoha explained that while the party has a disciplinary committee, no one has been punished because no official complaints have been filed. “It is not enough to merely say someone has committed an offence,” he said, emphasizing that a formal petition is necessary.
Osuoha added that anyone who files a petition must be prepared to testify and present evidence. He noted that this challenge isn’t unique to the PDP but reflects broader issues within Nigeria’s political and legal systems, where people often fail to follow up on accusations.
