Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has quashed rumours of alliance talks with other parties, declaring that the NNPP remains firmly on its own path.
Speaking to the BBC Hausa Service, the former Kano governor said the party’s members were “comfortable and in no hurry,” stressing that every political move would be carefully weighed.
“There are no alliance discussions at present,” Kwankwaso stated. “That does not, however, rule out future dialogue — politics is about engagement, and we are always open to meaningful conversation.”
His remarks come amid persistent speculation that Kwankwaso may return to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with claims he could be rewarded with a ministerial position after President Bola Tinubu’s pledge to include opposition figures in his cabinet.
Meanwhile, Senator Kabir Garba Marafa, former representative of Zamfara Central, has formally dumped the APC. He accused President Tinubu of sidelining loyal party members in favour of political opportunists.
Recalling Tinubu’s campaign promise to end the “monkey work, baboon chop” culture, Marafa alleged: “Today, those with no grassroots base are enjoying the spoils, while those of us who toiled for the party are left in the cold.”
