Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended prominent Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, widely known as E-Money, on allegations of Naira note abuse.
Sources within the EFCC confirmed that the arrest occurred on Monday night at his residence situated in the Omole area of Lagos.
According to these sources, the arrest stems from allegations that E-Money sprayed United States dollars, an act reportedly contravening the Foreign Exchange Act.
One source stated, “E-Money was taken into custody on Monday night for the improper handling of the Naira and the defacement of foreign currencies. Specifically, he is accused of spraying U.S. dollars, which violates the Foreign Exchange Act.”
The source further added, “His arrest took place at his Omole, Lagos home. Initial investigations are currently underway, and he will face court charges upon the conclusion of the investigation.”
Another source familiar with the matter corroborated the arrest, indicating that E-Money is being transported to Abuja for further questioning.
“Yes, he has been arrested and is currently being flown to Abuja to answer questions from investigators regarding this issue,” the source, who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed.
When contacted for official comment, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to provide any statement on the arrest.
This development follows recent reports of the EFCC’s increased scrutiny regarding the handling of both local and foreign currencies.
