Crystal Palace twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against second-placed Arsenal, leaving Liverpool just one point away from being crowned Premier League champions for the second time in five seasons.
A draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday at 16:30 BST would be enough for Arne Slot’s side, who currently lead Arsenal by 12 points, to clinch their 20th league title—equaling Manchester United’s record.
Both Arsenal and Crystal Palace had their sights set on cup competitions, with the Gunners in the Champions League semi-finals and the Eagles at the same stage in the FA Cup. Consequently, both managers opted to rest key players for this match.
Arsenal took an early lead at the Emirates Stadium when centre-back Jakub Kiwior scored with a well-placed header from a Martin Ødegaard free-kick in the third minute.
While Palace appeared dangerous on the attack, they also showed vulnerabilities at the back. Oliver Glasner’s side equalized in the 27th minute through a cleverly executed set-piece. Adam Wharton clipped the ball to the edge of the area, where Eberechi Eze volleyed it into the ground, causing it to bounce off the post and into the net.
Leandro Trossard restored Arsenal’s lead just before half-time, collecting a pass from Jurrien Timber and firing a shot into the bottom corner.
The Eagles continued to press for another equalizer, creating opportunities with headers from Justin Devenny and Ismaila Sarr, but neither could find the target.
Palace leveled for a second time through substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta, who capitalized on a dreadful loose pass from William Saliba 25 yards out. Mateta executed a superb chipped finish over the stranded Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, sealing a dramatic draw.
