Arsenal Football Club have reached a full agreement to sign prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres from Portuguese side Sporting CP, concluding weeks of intense negotiations between both clubs.

According to a report by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Swedish forward is now on the brink of completing his move to the Emirates Stadium. “Arsenal are applying the finishing touches to the deal,” Ornstein revealed, noting that the transfer is expected to be finalised imminently.

Gyokeres will join the North London club on a five-year deal, with the Gunners agreeing to pay an initial fee of €63.5 million and an additional €10 million in performance-related add-ons. The total €73.5 million valuation makes him one of Arsenal’s most expensive signings to date—and Sporting CP’s all-time record sale, if the add-ons are eventually activated.

In a gesture that reflects his strong desire to join Arsenal, Gyokeres reportedly gave up €2 million in wages to push the transfer forward. Meanwhile, his agent has waived all commission fees to smoothen the process, as confirmed by multiple transfer insiders.

Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the deal, posting his trademark “here we go” update on social media.

Gyokeres has been a standout performer in Portugal, netting an extraordinary 97 goals in just 102 appearances for Sporting. His goal-scoring prowess and physicality have made him a key target for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who is keen on bolstering the club’s attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite both clubs reaching an initial agreement last week, the final stage of negotiations focused heavily on the payment structure of the €10 million add-ons. According to The Transfers Podcast, Sporting CP insisted on a clause-based breakdown: €2.5 million if Gyokeres plays 20 matches in the upcoming season, another €2.5 million if he reaches 40 appearances, €2.5 million if Arsenal qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and a further €2.5 million if he features in 20 games during the 2026/27 season.

Arsenal initially pushed back on the structure, preferring stricter clauses, but a consensus has now been reached. With all parties aligned, Gyokeres is expected to travel to London for a medical and official unveiling in the coming days.

The 26-year-old forward previously featured for Coventry City before moving to Sporting, where he quickly established himself as one of Europe’s most feared strikers. His arrival is seen as a strategic investment as Arsenal aim to contend strongly for the Premier League title and return to dominance in European competitions.
