Residents of Akurba , the host community of 33 KVA power plant have raised the alarm over failure to deliver the needed power supplies to them by the authority of the power station.
Musa Barhama who spoke to our correspondent revealed that the power plant staff have deprived them of electricity supply ,preferring ice bock business , as he seek the intervention of the state Governor Engineer Abdullahi Sule .
He said the scenario unfolding before our eyes is a shameful testament to the gross injustice perpetuated by those entrusted with providing essential services.
“A power plant, established to supply electricity to the surrounding communities, is instead selling ice and deliberately denying power to the neighboring community. This act of negligence and exploitation warrants immediate government intervention” Musa lamented.
He further explained that the power plant actions are a blatant disregard for the well-being and basic needs of the community.Adding that electricity is not a luxury, but a fundamental necessity for modern life ,withholding power, the plant is effectively crippling the communities ability to function, causing untold hardship and suffering.
Musa reiterated that the fact that the power plant is selling ice blocks suggests a callous disregard for the community’s plight.
” It is unconscionable that a facility intended to provide a vital service is instead profiteering from the very people it is supposed to serve.
” This situation is a stark reminder of the need for effective governance and regulation. The government has a responsibility to ensure that essential services are provided to all citizens, regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic status”He added.
He said It is imperative that the government takes immediate action to:
Investigate the Power Plant’s Actions: Conduct a thorough inquiry into the power plant’s decision to withhold power and sell ice instead. Ensure Power Supply to the Community: Direct the power plant to immediately restore power supply to the neighboring community.
Continuing he pointed out that the government need hold those Responsible Accountable and Take disciplinary action against those responsible for the power plant failure.
” I want to suggested that a government develop Strategies to Prevent Similar Incidents and Implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, such as regular monitoring, inspections, and community engagement.
“The government response to this situation will be a litmus test of its commitment to the welfare of its citizens. It is essential that the government acts decisively and promptly to address this injustice and ensure that the community receives the essential services they deserve” He advised.
