Manchester United’s dismal form continued with a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at the London Stadium on Sunday. James Maddison scored the lone goal of the match in the first half, securing the win for the North London side.
Despite missing several first-team players due to injury, Manchester United showed flashes of promise but ultimately succumbed to their sixth consecutive defeat against Tottenham in all competitions. They have now won only three of their last 12 Premier League games.
United had an early opportunity to take the lead, but Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made two crucial saves to deny Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho. Tottenham capitalized on the opportunity, with Maddison scoring in the 19th minute after Onana parried Lucas Bergvall’s shot into his path.
Garnacho missed another chance to equalize before halftime, and the first half ended with Tottenham holding their 1-0 advantage.
Manchester United returned with more intent in the second half, but their struggles in front of goal persisted. Vicario continued to frustrate Garnacho, making several key saves. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee also missed a late headed chance.
Tottenham held on to secure the three points, moving up to 12th place in the Premier League table with 30 points from 24 matches. Manchester United dropped to 15th place with 29 points, further intensifying their relegation concerns.
Earlier on Sunday, Liverpool defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah scoring his 23rd league goal of the season from a penalty. Liverpool maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the table.
