The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has been hit with a nationwide strike by its staff, effective today. The industrial action is in response to the alleged short-changing of staff on the new minimum wage.

According to sources within the council, the staff are unhappy with the implementation of the minimum wage, which they claim has not been fully adhered to. The staff are demanding a review of the wage structure and immediate implementation of the new minimum wage.

The strike, which commenced today  according to the memo , is expected to cripple the activities of WAEC nationwide. The staff have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike, dubbed the “mother of all strikes,” if their demands are not met .

The strike action is likely to affect the upcoming examinations and other activities of the council. Parents, students, and other stakeholders are advised to monitor the situation closely and make necessary arrangements.

Efforts to reach the management of WAEC for comments on the strike action were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report. However, sources within the council confirm that the management is currently engaging with the staff union to resolve the dispute.
