Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has warned President Bola Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027 unless his government delivers real change.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Adebayo said Nigerians have endured “enough suffering” under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of mismanaging the country and failing to improve lives.
“If things remain as they are in 2027, President Tinubu, in good conscience, should not be surprised if he is voted out. Nigerians have suffered enough. His policies are not working,” Adebayo declared.
He argued that unless there is tangible progress in security, poverty reduction, employment, and the economy, Tinubu should “thank God he was president for four years and go home.”
His remarks came shortly after the APC controversially endorsed Tinubu for another four-year term. Critics say the endorsement is premature and insensitive at a time when millions of Nigerians are struggling with soaring living costs and the painful impact of recent reforms.
On the opposition front, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a decision some analysts believe could have altered the outcome of the 2023 polls had it been taken earlier. But Adebayo dismissed the move, insisting Nigerians deserve genuine alternatives.
“APC and PDP are like Siamese twins — they are the same company now. Nigerians want new politics and a new direction. That’s the real conversation,” he said.
While the APC has urged patience, insisting its reforms will soon bear fruit, critics like Adebayo warn that time is running out for the president to prove himself before Nigerians return to the ballot box.
