The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally shifted her loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The lawmaker confirmed her move during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Committee in Abuja, an event chaired by the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
This development marks a significant departure for Senator Natasha, who had previously been a key figure in the Governor Seyi Makinde-backed Turaki faction, even participating in their earlier convention held in Ibadan. However, that convention was subsequently nullified by the courts, leaving the group in a precarious legal position. By joining the Wike-aligned camp, Natasha is moving toward the faction that recently secured a favorable judgment at the Court of Appeal and maintains official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sources close to the Senator indicate that the move is a pragmatic step to secure her political future. With her sights set on seeking re-election to the Senate in 2027, Akpoti-Uduaghan is reportedly prioritizing a platform with legal legitimacy to protect her candidacy from the party’s ongoing internal litigations. Her presence at the Ikpeazu-led committee inauguration signals a definitive break from the Makinde coalition as the battle for the soul of the PDP intensifies.
