Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership as unserious ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting the party must present clear and workable alternative policies to earn public confidence.
Dogara said political relevance is not achieved through rhetoric or opposition for its own sake, but by offering Nigerians credible policy choices that address pressing challenges such as economic recovery, security, education and governance.
According to him, merely criticising the ruling party without articulating a distinct vision does little to advance democratic debate or help voters make informed decisions. He argued that Nigerians are increasingly discerning and expect opposition parties to go beyond slogans by outlining practical solutions.
The former Speaker stressed that democracy thrives when opposition parties act as viable alternatives, not just as platforms for political ambition. He noted that without a coherent policy framework, the ADC would struggle to convince Nigerians that it is prepared to govern.
Dogara urged political parties eyeing 2027 to focus on issue-based politics, warning that the electorate is fatigued by empty promises and recycled narratives. He added that credibility, competence and clarity of purpose would ultimately determine who earns the trust of voters at the polls.
