Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
The Governor made the announcement alongside the launch of the “Reset Nigeria Movement” and an official campaign website designed to serve as a central hub for nationwide and diaspora mobilization.
According to Makinde, the digital platform will coordinate policy engagement, volunteer registration, and grassroots participation. He emphasized that his candidacy is built on the need for competent, accountable leadership to rebuild public trust and strengthen national institutions.
“Nigeria cannot continue with politics as usual,” Makinde stated. “This is the time to reset our nation, rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions, and create a system that works for all Nigerians.”
The “Reset Nigeria” agenda focuses on several key pillars, including economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and power sector reforms. It also prioritizes national security and institutional strengthening.
To ensure transparency and combat disinformation, the campaign website includes a ‘Truth Hub’ and a Media Resource Centre, providing official statements and biographical data for the public and journalists.
Supporters of the Governor have cited his performance in Oyo State—specifically in infrastructure renewal, agribusiness expansion, and fiscal discipline—as evidence of his capacity for national leadership. Before entering politics, Makinde founded the Makon Group Limited, and he has frequently pointed to his private-sector experience as a catalyst for his governance style.
A formal declaration ceremony is scheduled to take place at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan. The event is expected to host party leaders, professional bodies, and youth groups as the Governor begins his nationwide mobilization ahead of the 2027 polls.
