The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will provide a “physically present and responsive” leadership if elected in 2027.
The council emphasized that Atiku would not be an “absentee president” unavailable to address the pressing challenges facing the nation.
The Director of Media and Publicity for the ADC Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, gave this assurance on Monday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), led by Hon. Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan stated that Atiku’s extensive understanding of Nigeria’s economic and social landscape positions him to implement effective policy interventions. He recalled that during the 2023 campaign, Atiku advocated for a phased withdrawal of the fuel subsidy to mitigate the economic strain on citizens, a position that Ologbondiyan argues remains relevant today.
“The country needs a president who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance,” Ologbondiyan said. “Nigeria cannot afford a situation where there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments. The country requires firm and focused leadership.”
According to the council, an Atiku administration would prioritize confronting economic difficulties, improving citizen welfare, and restoring confidence in public institutions. The candidate’s recent economic proposals center on a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined domestically, subject to fixed spending limits, National Assembly oversight, and independent audits to ensure accountability.
In his remarks, the leader of the AUM delegation, Hon. Francis Eburuwe, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the “Atiku project.” He noted that the movement is determined to mobilize grassroots support across the country to drive a change in Nigeria’s political direction.
“We are committed to taking the message of Atiku’s candidacy to every corner of Nigeria,” Eburuwe said, expressing confidence that an Atiku-led government would successfully tackle the nation’s socio-economic burdens.
The movement pledged its full support for the ADC campaign, urging its members to intensify mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
