The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared 14 political associations, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), for the next stage in their bid to become fully registered parties. The commission announced this development in a statement released on Thursday, signed by National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.
Olumekun said, “Out of 171 groups that applied, only 14 have met the criteria set out under Section 222 of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022, and INEC’s guidelines for political parties.”
The qualifying associations will now undergo a physical verification process to confirm their claims before INEC makes a final decision on their registration status.
Interim chairmen and secretaries of the 14 associations have been invited to a briefing scheduled for Wednesday, September 17, at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja.
