The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has finally broken his silence over the recent clash between military personnel and officials of the FCT Administration, issuing a stern warning that no one is above the law.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike condemned the incident, describing it as “unacceptable and a direct affront to civil authority.” He stressed that while the military remains a respected institution, all security agencies must operate strictly within the bounds of the law.

“The FCT will not tolerate lawlessness from anyone — whether civilian or military. The rule of law must prevail at all times,” the minister declared.

Wike emphasised that the administration is working closely with the relevant security authorities to ensure that those responsible for the confrontation are identified and appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining peace and order in the FCT, adding that his administration would continue to support all security agencies in carrying out their constitutional duties — but within legal limits.

“Our capital city must reflect order and respect for due process. We cannot build a modern FCT on impunity,” Wike said.

The minister’s statement comes days after a confrontation between FCTA task force officials and military personnel reportedly turned violent, sparking public concern over the growing tension between civil authorities and the armed forces.

Observers say Wike’s firm stance may help restore confidence in the government’s resolve to uphold the rule of law in the nation’s capital.
