Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed his approval of Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State and vice-presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, for endorsing President Bola Tinubu.
This endorsement comes on the heels of Sheriff Oborevwori, the current governor of Delta State, leaving the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Okowa is also expected to follow suit and join the ruling party soon.
Oborevwori succeeded Okowa as governor after winning the 2023 election on the PDP ticket.
In a statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s spokesperson, the minister remarked that Okowa’s support for Tinubu reinforces his own backing of the president during the 2023 elections.
“It is another endorsement of the president’s good governance and commitment to the development of the country,” the statement read. “I am particularly pleased that what I perceived before the 2023 presidential election is now being recognized by others who are joining the Renewed Hope train.”
Wike emphasized that the timing of Okowa and Oborevwori’s endorsement is advantageous for the Niger Delta region.
“They have come out at the right time to show support for the president so that the people of Niger Delta can benefit more from the government, and I commend them,” he stated.
Wike praised both Dr. Okowa and Governor Oborevwori for their commendable decision, which he believes is driven by the principles of good governance and President Tinubu’s commitment to national unity and development.
He urged other Nigerians yet to support the president to reconsider, highlighting the importance of unity and progress for the nation.
