Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has assured the Ikwerre ethnic nationality of their continued prominence in Nigeria’s political affairs, urging them not to entertain fear or uncertainty about their place in national leadership.

Speaking to supporters, Wike stressed that the Ikwerre people remain a decisive and influential group whose relevance cannot be diminished or overlooked.

“As my people, you don’t need to panic. Ikwerre will continue to be relevant in the politics of this country. The Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not one you can ignore, and let nobody make the mistake of ignoring us. If you ignore us, you ignore yourself,” he declared.

Wike’s remarks come amid heightened political conversations within Rivers State and beyond, as various blocs position themselves ahead of future political realignments.

The former governor’s statement is being widely interpreted as both a reassurance to his ethnic base and a strategic message to political actors across the country about the enduring influence of the Ikwerre in national politics.

Political observers say Wike’s comments signal his continuing involvement in shaping political dynamics in Rivers State and at the federal level.
