Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, has called on President Bola Tinubu to facilitate the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Following a meeting with Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, Abaribe expressed confidence in Tinubu’s reputation as a listening leader and urged him to heed the advice of the Attorney General of the Federation and other stakeholders advocating for Kanu’s freedom.

“I expect that the President will listen to both his Attorney General and all of us who have been pushing for the resolution of issues in the Southeast,” Abaribe stated.

He highlighted that criminals have exploited Kanu’s name to perpetrate violence and other despicable acts, asserting that releasing him could help restore peace and order in the region.

“Releasing him will help restore peace and order in the region,” Abaribe added.

The senator assured Tinubu that Southeast leaders are prepared to act as guarantors for Kanu’s release, emphasizing that his freedom is essential for addressing challenges such as the Monday sit-at-home orders and ongoing insurgency.

“We need Nnamdi Kanu out so that the Southeast can regain its position as a production hub in Nigeria. Without stability, Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms and other economic initiatives will not succeed in our region,” he concluded.
