Zainab Ado-Bayero, the daughter of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has shared her struggles following her father’s passing, revealing her emotional and physical exhaustion.
In a now-viral video, Zainab detailed the dire conditions she and her family have been enduring, struggling to make ends meet since the Emir’s death. She explained that she is currently stranded in Lagos, lacking support and resources.
Zainab recounted how her father left her without an education or a home. In the video, she expressed her desperation: “I’m outside on the streets of Lagos with nowhere to go, stranded. I don’t know anyone here. I’m a few meters away from Eko Hotel, and we have nowhere to go. Since morning, we’ve been trying to find someone to help us.”
She continued, “I can’t keep doing this. This is me, the daughter of the Emir of Kano, on the streets of Lagos, unsafe and stranded. No one cares if I live or die. No one owes me anything, but I at least deserve to feel safe and protected.”
Zainab lamented her situation, saying, “My father left me with nothing—no education, no home, nothing. I’ve tried to survive, but I can’t go on anymore. This is what they’ve turned me into: a girl with nothing, a girl who had so many dreams, now a woman with nothing—no job, no degree, nothing, no home, lost and stranded, with no one to turn to, no family.”
“The burden is too much on me. My mother and younger brother depend on me, but I have no means to keep going. I’m exhausted, emotionally and physically, and I don’t know what to do or who to turn to.”
Zainab has reached out to the media, pleading with the president, the governor, and the current Emir Sanusi for help. “I’ve pleaded for someone to care for a young woman who doesn’t want to die, but it’s clear nobody cares if I live or die. I want to end it because I can’t keep doing this,” she concluded, highlighting her profound despair.
