Galatasaray have received a major boost ahead of their UEFA Champions League opener, with reports confirming that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is set to start against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank Arena.

The 26-year-old forward suffered a bruised shin during Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda in a World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium. This injury forced him to miss Galatasaray’s recent league matches, including a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a domestic clash against Eyüpspor. Despite initial fears, Galatasaray’s medical team confirmed the injury as a moderate ankle sprain with ligament bleeding, ruling out long-term damage.

Osimhen, who was brought back to Turkey via private jet for urgent assessment and treatment, has expressed his determination to feature in the Champions League fixture, even if it means playing through pain. Sources reveal that he informed coach Okan Buruk of his readiness and willingness to make sacrifices to help Galatasaray’s European campaign.

Speaking on Osimhen’s condition, Buruk said, “Osimhen is still experiencing pain but is motivated to play. We will assess if he can tolerate the discomfort and contribute effectively. We remain hopeful he will feature.”

Osimhen’s importance to Galatasaray cannot be overstated. The former Napoli star, who set a club record transfer fee of €75 million, scored 37 goals in 41 appearances last season, playing a pivotal role in the club’s domestic dominance.

Notably, Osimhen boasts an impressive record against Eintracht Frankfurt, having scored three goals in three prior meetings. His return is expected to provide a vital attacking edge as Galatasaray embarks on their Champions League journey.
