KADUNA — Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have arrested a suspected bandit, identified as 32-year-old Ibrahim Adamu, and recovered an AK-47 magazine, mobile phones and a quantity of cannabis during a checkpoint operation in Birnin Gwari, military sources said.
The arrest took place at about 6:04 p.m. on May 8, when soldiers of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa mounted a snap roadblock at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area and intercepted Adamu riding a motorcycle, the sources told Zagazola Makama.
A search of the suspect yielded one AK-47 rifle magazine, three mobile phones, a quantity of cannabis and other personal effects, the sources said. A preliminary review of the phones reportedly produced several photographs allegedly showing Adamu dressed in a military-style uniform and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
The suspect and the recovered items were taken to the battalion headquarters for further investigation and necessary action, officials said.
Military authorities described the security situation in the area as calm but unpredictable and said troops have intensified surveillance and monitoring across the axis. Operation Fansan Yamma has stepped up offensive and intelligence-driven operations across parts of the Northwest to curb banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activity.
